Log Book Servicing and Car Safety Inspections for Safer Winter Driving in Wendouree Winter can be one of the most challenging times of the year for Australian motorists. Shorter daylight hours, heavy rain, fog, frost, slippery roads and reduced visibility can all increase the risk of accidents. While many drivers prepare themselves for changing weather conditions, not everyone considers whether their vehicle is prepared too.

Regular Log Book Servicing and Car Safety Inspections help ensure your vehicle remains reliable, safe and ready to handle winter driving conditions. At Neale Goad Automotive, we help drivers throughout Wendouree identify potential issues before they become costly breakdowns or safety hazards. Why Winter Driving Places Extra Demands on Your Vehicle Winter weather affects multiple vehicle systems at the same time. Wet roads reduce tyre grip, cold temperatures can impact battery performance, and reduced visibility places greater demands on wipers, lights and demisters.

Common winter driving hazards include: Heavy rain and standing water Fog and reduced visibility Frost-covered windscreens Strong crosswinds Slippery roads and longer braking distances Early morning and evening darkness When your vehicle's safety systems are operating correctly, these conditions become easier to manage. When maintenance is neglected, even a minor issue can quickly become a major problem. What Is a Log Book Service? A Log Book Service is a scheduled maintenance service performed according to the manufacturer's specifications. It helps ensure your vehicle remains safe, reliable and protected under applicable new vehicle warranty requirements.

During a Log Book Service, technicians inspect, test and replace various components based on your vehicle's age, kilometres travelled and service schedule.

A typical service may include checks of: Engine oil and filters Brake system components Steering and suspension Battery condition Tyres and tyre pressures Cooling system Lights and electrical systems Windscreen washers and wipers Drive belts and hoses As an independently owned Repco Authorised Service centre, Neale Goad Automotive follows manufacturer servicing requirements using quality parts and lubricants. The Importance of a Winter Car Safety Inspection Even if your next Log Book Service isn't due yet, a dedicated safety inspection before winter can help identify developing issues.

A winter safety inspection focuses on components most affected by seasonal driving conditions, including: Tyres: Tyres are your vehicle's only contact with the road. Worn tread reduces grip, especially on wet surfaces, increasing stopping distances and the likelihood of aquaplaning.

Brakes: Braking performance becomes even more important on slippery roads. Brake pads, rotors and brake fluid should be checked regularly to ensure predictable stopping power.

Battery: Cold weather can reduce battery performance, particularly if the battery is over three years old. Many battery failures occur during winter because the battery can no longer provide sufficient starting power.

Wipers and Washers: Effective windscreen visibility is critical during rain and fog. Worn wiper blades can smear water across the glass, making visibility significantly worse.

Lights: Headlights, brake lights and indicators are often used more frequently during winter due to reduced daylight hours and poor weather conditions. Have You Found Yourself in This Situation? Have you ever headed to work on a cold, wet morning only to discover your windscreen wipers are leaving streaks across the glass?

Or perhaps you've pressed the brake pedal on a rainy day and felt the vehicle take longer than expected to stop?

Maybe you've returned to your vehicle after a frosty night only to hear the dreaded clicking sound of a weak battery.

These situations often occur without warning, yet many can be prevented through routine servicing and safety inspections. What Can Happen When Maintenance Is Neglected? Small maintenance issues can affect multiple vehicle systems.

For example: Worn tyres can increase stopping distances and reduce steering control. Weak batteries can place additional strain on charging systems. Low coolant levels may contribute to overheating or engine damage. Worn suspension components can affect tyre wear and vehicle handling. Faulty headlights can reduce visibility for both you and other road users. Addressing these issues early is usually simpler and less expensive than dealing with a breakdown or repair later. Did you know that tyre pressure naturally decreases as temperatures drop?

For every 10°C reduction in temperature, tyre pressure can fall by approximately 1 to 2 PSI. Under-inflated tyres can wear more quickly, reduce fuel efficiency and affect vehicle handling, making regular tyre pressure checks particularly important during winter. Simple Tips for Safer Winter Driving To improve safety and reliability during winter: Have your vehicle serviced according to the manufacturer's schedule. Check tyre pressures monthly. Replace worn wiper blades before the rainy season. Test your battery annually, especially after three years of age. Ensure all lights are operating correctly. Keep washer bottles topped up. Allow extra braking distance on wet roads. Reduce speed during poor visibility conditions. Why Winter Vehicle Maintenance Matters in Wendouree Drivers in Wendouree can experience cold mornings, rain, fog and rapidly changing weather conditions throughout winter. These conditions can place additional stress on vehicle batteries, tyres, brakes and visibility systems.

Regular servicing and inspections help ensure your vehicle is prepared for local conditions while reducing the risk of unexpected breakdowns and costly repairs. Winter Driving FAQs Can cold weather affect my vehicle even if it starts normally? Yes. A battery can still start your vehicle while gradually losing capacity. Professional battery testing can identify declining performance before complete failure occurs. Why does my vehicle seem to use more fuel during winter? Cold temperatures can increase engine warm-up times and place additional demands on electrical systems, which may slightly affect fuel consumption. Can worn suspension affect winter driving safety? Absolutely. Suspension components help keep tyres in contact with the road. Worn shock absorbers or suspension bushes can reduce grip and vehicle stability. Does brake fluid need replacing? Yes. Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time. Excess moisture can reduce braking efficiency and increase corrosion within the braking system. Why do headlights seem dimmer during winter? Cloudy conditions, dirty lenses and ageing bulbs can all reduce light output. A lighting inspection can help improve visibility. Is a safety inspection worthwhile if my vehicle isn't due for a service? Yes. A seasonal safety inspection can identify emerging issues before they become serious, particularly before winter road trips or periods of heavy use. Winter Roads, Wet Windscreens & Worn Tyres? Don't Let Winter Catch You Off Guard!

Your vehicle’s braking system is one of its most important safety systems. While brakes are designed to withstand considerable wear and heat, components gradually deteriorate through normal driving. Recognising changes in braking performance early can help prevent more extensive repairs and ensure your vehicle remains safe to drive.

For drivers in Wendouree, regular brake inspections are a practical part of responsible vehicle maintenance – particularly if you regularly drive in stop-start traffic, travel long distances, carry heavy loads or tow. Signs Your Brakes May Need Attention Brake problems do not always begin with an obvious failure. Some warning signs can develop gradually, making them easy to dismiss as normal wear.

Keep an eye (and ear) out for: Squealing or unusual brake noises when slowing down Grinding or scraping sounds, which can indicate significant component wear A spongy or unusually soft brake pedal Brake pedal pulsation or vibration when braking The vehicle pulling to one side when you apply the brakes A longer stopping distance than you are used to A brake warning light appearing on the dashboard These symptoms should not be ignored. A change in braking performance can indicate worn brake components, a problem with the hydraulic system or another issue that requires professional assessment. Why Regular Brake Inspections Matter Brake components wear at different rates depending on the vehicle, driving conditions and how the vehicle is used. For example, frequent urban driving with repeated stops can place considerable demands on brake pads and rotors.

A brake inspection allows a qualified technician to assess the condition of the braking system and identify wear before it develops into a more serious problem. Brake checks are also an important part of routine vehicle servicing, helping identify issues that may not yet be noticeable from the driver’s seat.

At Neale Goad Automotive, brake condition can also be assessed as part of the 65 Point Vehicle Inspection included with full car services. This provides an opportunity to identify developing brake issues before they become more costly or affect your vehicle’s safety. Don't Wait for Your Brakes to Fail Brake maintenance is not simply about replacing brake pads when they become worn. The braking system includes several components that need to work together correctly, including pads, discs or drums, calipers, brake hoses and fluid.

If you notice a change in how your vehicle brakes, booking an inspection is the safest approach. Addressing a developing problem early may help prevent additional wear to other components and reduce the risk of being caught with an unsafe vehicle.

If you are unsure whether a noise, vibration or change in pedal feel is serious, it is better to have it checked rather than wait for the problem to worsen. Brake Maintenance FAQs How do I know if my brakes are starting to fail? Common warning signs include squealing or grinding noises, a brake pedal that feels soft or spongy, increased stopping distances, vibration through the steering wheel or pedal, or the vehicle pulling to one side when braking. If you notice any of these symptoms, book a brake inspection with Neale Goad Automotive in Wendouree before the problem becomes more serious. Is it safe to drive if my brakes are making a noise? It depends on the cause. Some brake noises can be caused by normal wear, while grinding or persistent squealing may indicate worn brake pads or another brake component requiring attention. Continuing to drive with a brake problem can increase stopping distances and potentially cause further damage. If your brakes do not feel or sound normal, have them checked promptly. How often should my brakes be checked? Brake components should be inspected regularly as part of routine vehicle servicing, but there is no single replacement interval for every vehicle. Brake pad and rotor wear depends on driving conditions, vehicle weight, traffic, towing and driving habits. Regular brake maintenance helps identify worn components before they affect braking performance or safety. What is included in a brake inspection? A brake inspection can include checking the condition and wear of brake pads, discs or rotors, drums where fitted, brake callipers, brake fluid and other related components. Neale Goad Automotive can assess the overall braking system and explain whether maintenance or repairs are required, helping you make an informed decision about your vehicle. Why is brake fluid important? Brake fluid transfers the pressure from the brake pedal to the braking components at each wheel. Over time, brake fluid can absorb moisture and its condition can deteriorate, which may affect braking performance. Checking brake fluid condition as part of brake maintenance can help maintain reliable braking and protect components within the hydraulic braking system. How much does brake maintenance cost? The cost depends on what your vehicle needs, such as brake pad replacement, disc machining or replacement, brake fluid service or repairs to other components. Neale Goad Automotive can inspect your brakes and provide advice based on the vehicle's condition before carrying out required work. For professional brake maintenance in Wendouree, contact Neale Goad Automotive to discuss your vehicle and arrange an inspection. New Car Service in Wendouree

Engines that operate through internal combustion rely on large amounts of clean air to ensure the fuel burns properly and generates the power needed to drive the vehicle. At Neale Goad Automotive in Wendouree, we understand how vital it is to keep your car's air filter in good condition as part of protecting your engine's health. Your engine requires extremely clean air to function efficiently. Dirt, dust, and other particles entering the engine can cause serious damage. That’s where the air filter comes into play. It ensures the air entering the combustion chambers is clean, shielding key engine components such as the pistons and cylinders from wear and damage. Why Replace Your Air Filter? Save on Fuel Costs: Your engine requires the correct balance of fuel and air to run efficiently. A clogged air filter restricts airflow, causing your engine to run inefficiently – often referred to as ‘running rich.’ This not only puts additional stress on your engine but can also increase fuel consumption by up to 10%. No one likes spending more on petrol than necessary! Protect Your Engine: Over time, air filters become clogged and weaker, increasing the risk of damage. A damaged or overly dirty air filter can allow harmful particles to enter the engine, potentially leading to expensive repairs. Benefits of Replacing Your Air Filter: Extends the life of your engine Improves fuel efficiency Reduces vehicle emissions At Neale Goad Automotive, we always check the condition of your air filter during every full car service. Whether it’s a major or minor service, or one that follows your manufacturer’s handbook or logbook guidelines, you can trust us to keep your engine running smoothly.

Keep your engine healthy with clean air filters. Improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, and extend engine life. Visit Neale Goad Automotive for expert maintenance and reliable car servicing.
