Car Service and Mechanical Repairs in Ballarat

Your vehicle’s braking system is one of its most important safety systems. While brakes are designed to withstand considerable wear and heat, components gradually deteriorate through normal driving. Recognising changes in braking performance early can help prevent more extensive repairs and ensure your vehicle remains safe to drive.

For drivers in Wendouree, regular brake inspections are a practical part of responsible vehicle maintenance – particularly if you regularly drive in stop-start traffic, travel long distances, carry heavy loads or tow.

Brake problems do not always begin with an obvious failure. Some warning signs can develop gradually, making them easy to dismiss as normal wear.

Keep an eye (and ear) out for:

Squealing or unusual brake noises when slowing down

Grinding or scraping sounds, which can indicate significant component wear

Brake pedal pulsation or vibration when braking

The vehicle pulling to one side when you apply the brakes

A longer stopping distance than you are used to

A brake warning light appearing on the dashboard

These symptoms should not be ignored. A change in braking performance can indicate worn brake components, a problem with the hydraulic system or another issue that requires professional assessment.

Brake components wear at different rates depending on the vehicle, driving conditions and how the vehicle is used. For example, frequent urban driving with repeated stops can place considerable demands on brake pads and rotors.

A brake inspection allows a qualified technician to assess the condition of the braking system and identify wear before it develops into a more serious problem. Brake checks are also an important part of routine vehicle servicing, helping identify issues that may not yet be noticeable from the driver’s seat.

At Neale Goad Automotive, brake condition can also be assessed as part of the 65 Point Vehicle Inspection included with full car services. This provides an opportunity to identify developing brake issues before they become more costly or affect your vehicle’s safety.

Brake maintenance is not simply about replacing brake pads when they become worn. The braking system includes several components that need to work together correctly, including pads, discs or drums, calipers, brake hoses and fluid.

If you notice a change in how your vehicle brakes, booking an inspection is the safest approach. Addressing a developing problem early may help prevent additional wear to other components and reduce the risk of being caught with an unsafe vehicle.

If you are unsure whether a noise, vibration or change in pedal feel is serious, it is better to have it checked rather than wait for the problem to worsen.

At Neale Goad Automotive, our experienced technicians can inspect your vehicle’s braking system and advise you if maintenance or repairs are required. Depending on the condition of your vehicle, brake work may include components such as brake pads, discs, drums, calipers, brake hoses and brake fluid.

As a Repco Authorised Service member, Neale Goad Automotive also provides the Repco Authorised Service Nationwide Warranty on eligible services, providing additional peace of mind when having your vehicle maintained.

If you have noticed a change in your vehicle’s braking performance, don't put it off. Book a brake inspection with Neale Goad Automotive in Wendouree and have the issue professionally assessed.

Winter can be one of the most challenging times of the year for Australian motorists. Shorter daylight hours, heavy rain, fog, frost, slippery roads and reduced visibility can all increase the risk of accidents. While many drivers prepare themselves for changing weather conditions, not everyone considers whether their vehicle is prepared too.

Regular Log Book Servicing and Car Safety Inspections help ensure your vehicle remains reliable, safe and ready to handle winter driving conditions. At Neale Goad Automotive, we help drivers throughout Wendouree identify potential issues before they become costly breakdowns or safety hazards.

Log Book Servicing and Car Safety Inspections for Safer Winter Driving in Wendouree

Winter weather affects multiple vehicle systems at the same time. Wet roads reduce tyre grip, cold temperatures can impact battery performance, and reduced visibility places greater demands on wipers, lights and demisters.

Common winter driving hazards include:

Why Winter Driving Places Extra Demands on Your Vehicle

Slippery roads and longer braking distances

When your vehicle's safety systems are operating correctly, these conditions become easier to manage. When maintenance is neglected, even a minor issue can quickly become a major problem.

A Log Book Service is a scheduled maintenance service performed according to the manufacturer's specifications. It helps ensure your vehicle remains safe, reliable and protected under applicable new vehicle warranty requirements.

During a Log Book Service, technicians inspect, test and replace various components based on your vehicle's age, kilometres travelled and service schedule.

A typical service may include checks of:

As an independently owned Repco Authorised Service centre, Neale Goad Automotive follows manufacturer servicing requirements using quality parts and lubricants.

Even if your next Log Book Service isn't due yet, a dedicated safety inspection before winter can help identify developing issues.

A winter safety inspection focuses on components most affected by seasonal driving conditions, including:

The Importance of a Winter Car Safety Inspection

Tyres: Tyres are your vehicle's only contact with the road. Worn tread reduces grip, especially on wet surfaces, increasing stopping distances and the likelihood of aquaplaning.

Brakes: Braking performance becomes even more important on slippery roads. Brake pads, rotors and brake fluid should be checked regularly to ensure predictable stopping power.

Battery: Cold weather can reduce battery performance, particularly if the battery is over three years old. Many battery failures occur during winter because the battery can no longer provide sufficient starting power.

Wipers and Washers: Effective windscreen visibility is critical during rain and fog. Worn wiper blades can smear water across the glass, making visibility significantly worse.

Lights: Headlights, brake lights and indicators are often used more frequently during winter due to reduced daylight hours and poor weather conditions.

Have you ever headed to work on a cold, wet morning only to discover your windscreen wipers are leaving streaks across the glass?

Or perhaps you've pressed the brake pedal on a rainy day and felt the vehicle take longer than expected to stop?

Maybe you've returned to your vehicle after a frosty night only to hear the dreaded clicking sound of a weak battery.

These situations often occur without warning, yet many can be prevented through routine servicing and safety inspections.

Have You Found Yourself in This Situation?

Small maintenance issues can affect multiple vehicle systems.

For example:

What Can Happen When Maintenance Is Neglected?

Worn tyres can increase stopping distances and reduce steering control.

Weak batteries can place additional strain on charging systems.

Low coolant levels may contribute to overheating or engine damage.

Worn suspension components can affect tyre wear and vehicle handling.

Faulty headlights can reduce visibility for both you and other road users.

Addressing these issues early is usually simpler and less expensive than dealing with a breakdown or repair later.

Did you know that tyre pressure naturally decreases as temperatures drop?

For every 10°C reduction in temperature, tyre pressure can fall by approximately 1 to 2 PSI. Under-inflated tyres can wear more quickly, reduce fuel efficiency and affect vehicle handling, making regular tyre pressure checks particularly important during winter.

To improve safety and reliability during winter:

Have your vehicle serviced according to the manufacturer's schedule.

Replace worn wiper blades before the rainy season.

Test your battery annually, especially after three years of age.

Ensure all lights are operating correctly.

Allow extra braking distance on wet roads.

Reduce speed during poor visibility conditions.

Drivers in Wendouree can experience cold mornings, rain, fog and rapidly changing weather conditions throughout winter. These conditions can place additional stress on vehicle batteries, tyres, brakes and visibility systems.

Regular servicing and inspections help ensure your vehicle is prepared for local conditions while reducing the risk of unexpected breakdowns and costly repairs.
